About Birdbird

Birdbird is a place to understand flying and to prepare for it: interactive theory, flight preparation and training for pilots, from the first instrument lessons to an airline simulator check.

Who built it, and why

Birdbird is built by Daniel Nilsson, a pilot.

During training, the hard parts were rarely the flying itself. They were the order of things, and the things you cannot see: the air over the wing, the error in the altimeter on a cold day, the margin that disappears when an engine fails at the wrong moment.

Textbooks describe these things well, but they do not move. Birdbird is the set of tools that was missing: models you can change and watch respond, a briefing you can repeat the same way every time, and practice that follows a fixed order until it runs on its own.

The Virtual Lab is built on the A320, the type rating trainer covers the King Air B200, and the training tools use a light twin. It keeps growing.

Virtual Lab

Interactive theory in modules that follow the EASA ATPL subjects, with a short test at the end of each lab.

Briefing pack and Route Explorer

VFR and IFR briefing, minima, performance, mass and balance, fuel and kneeboard sheets, with a terrain profile and airspace for the route.

Training

Gate to gate, briefings, radio drills, a simulator, A320 simulator assessment preparation and the B200 type rating trainer.

Flight Intelligence

An instructor that answers from your own AFM, QRH and SOP, and shows the passage each answer is built on.

Principles

Three rules decide what goes into Birdbird and how it is built.

01

Understanding over memorising

Every lab starts from why something happens, and lets you change the inputs to see it. Tests ask you to reason, not to recognise a stored answer.

If you understand the model, the exam question and the situation in the aircraft are the same problem.

02

Honest teaching models

The labs use simplified physics and typical values, and each one says what it leaves out. Aircraft figures are illustrative, not manufacturer data.

Birdbird is for understanding and preparation. The AFM, the AIP and your operator's procedures always come first.

03

Your documents stay yours

Documents you add for Flight Intelligence are processed and stored in your own browser. Progress and ranks are stored there too.
